Donating money - even a few dollars - can help great organizations do the work that makes our democracy stronger.
What do donations pay for?
All kinds of things:
- training workers and volunteers
- printing fliers and voting reminder cards
- postage
- office expenses, like rent and electricity
Do I have to donate every month?
Nope - even a small one-time donation helps. Many organizations encourage you to donate monthly, because it makes it easier for them to plan their year-round budgets, but they're happy to get a single donation if that's what works for you.
How do I decide who to donate to?
- Pick an issue that's important to you and search the internet for non-profits working on that issue
- Watch for news stories about lawsuits and support the organizations bringing the suits

Anything else I should know?
- You'll probably start getting emails from the organization after you donate. You can ask them not to email you, and also tell them not to share your email address with anyone else - or you can donate without giving them an email address. (If their online donation form requires an email address, you can send a check, or call them up and make a donation over the phone.)
- You may also start getting paper mail. Again, you can ask them not to send you any mail, and also tell them not to give your address to anyone else.
- If you donate to a non-profit, your donation will probably stay private, but if you donate to a political organization or a candidate, your donation will probably become public record. (For example, here's a list of donations made by Jeff Bezos.)
