What is a Town Hall?
Town halls are public meetings often hosted by elected officials or other community leaders (including Indivisible groups!) to discuss important issues, ask questions, and share input on government policies and actions.
Why would I go to a Town Hall?
- To ask your elected representative to do something or explain a position
- To find out more about what your elected representative has been doing and plans to do
- To advocate for an issue you care about
- To show support for an issue just by being there
How do I find a Town Hall?
- Call your representatives and ask when and where they're holding Town Halls
- If they aren't doing any Town Halls, ask them to set one up in your town
- Check with local grassroots groups like Indivisible - they'll often let you know when a Town Hall is coming up
How do I prepare for a Town Hall?
You don't have to do anything - just find the time and place and show up, ready to listen.
However, if you want to get more out of it, you can:
- Prepare a question or two to ask your representative
- Prepare a short statement so you can tell your representative what's important to you
- Read about your representative's recent actions and votes
