Learn about and support organizations that strengthen democracy

There are thousands of organizations, big and small, all over the country, helping to protect the nation and the people who live here. Some file lawsuits, some help register voters, some raise money for candidates or help candidates run - there are all kinds of groups helping in all kinds of ways.

One way you can get involved is by donating money or volunteering your time with organizations that strengthen democracy.

I've added organizations I think are doing good things - but there are so many more. You can search the internet for local or national organizations working on the issues that matter most to you.

Democracy Forward advances democracy and social progress through litigation, policy and public education, and regulatory engagement.

What they do

Democracy Forward provides legal representation and expert counsel to people and communities. Some examples:

they fought in court to keep the ACA's preventive care requirements in place
they won a temporary restraining order to stop the destruction of the Institute of Museum and Library Services while the court case is decided
they won a preliminary injunction in their suit to stop the unlawful defunding of Radio Free Asia and Middle East Broadcasting Networks

In fact:

In Trump’s first 100 days, Democracy Forward has taken decisive action to hold the administration accountable, filing 60 legal actions, launching 82 investigations, and submitting 700 FOIA requests, contributing to the more than 200 lawsuits filed against the administration nationwide.
These efforts have yielded concrete results, with courts issuing over 100 rulings temporarily halting various administration initiatives.

Why I support them

Lawsuits against illegal government overreach have been one of the most effective ways to fight back. Democracy Forward has done a ton of amazing work with impressive results.

I especially appreciate their lawsuit to stop the destruction of the Department of Education, and that was a major reason for my recent donation to them.
